You & Them
The Scorpio parent
You do not do this by halves. Your children have somebody who would go through a wall for them, who can be told anything, and who sees straight through every story they will ever try. The work is letting them be separate from you.

- Mars and Pluto
The parent you already are
Your children have somebody who is entirely, unmistakably on their side.
Mars gives you the fight and Pluto gives you the depth, and together they produce a parent who does not do surfaces. You know when something is wrong. You know when the explanation you are being given is not the real one. And you do not flinch at the difficult thing, which means your children can eventually bring you the difficult thing.
You are also honest, sometimes bluntly, and children of every sign in this list benefit from an adult who does not manage them with pleasant fictions. The injection will hurt. The dog is not coming back. You are going out and will be home after they are asleep. A child who is told the truth stops having to guess.
The hour that tests you
It is the moment a child wants to be separate from you.
Not dramatically. The closed bedroom door, the friend they do not want to discuss, the mood they will not explain. Your instinct is to go in after it, because you know something is there and you know you could get to it. And with several signs on this page, that instinct is the one thing that closes them.
The second thing is that you do not let go. Something happened at school in March and you are still watching that child’s mother in September. Your own children move on faster than you do, and they notice that you have not, which teaches them that things are more dangerous than they are.
What to do with that
Ask once. Then sit nearby and stop asking. Every private child in this list, and most of the public ones, will bring it to you sideways an hour later if you have made the room safe and undemanding.
Let it end when it ends. When a Gemini child has forgotten it, or an Aries child has genuinely moved on, follow them out rather than keeping the file open. You are not being vigilant; you are extending something they had finished.
And take your certainty down a notch on purpose. You are very often right, which is exactly why a child raised by you needs practice at disagreeing with you and surviving it.
What you carry into the room
What you give without trying
- Total commitment. Your child never wonders whether you are really in this, because you are visibly, permanently in it.
- A place for the difficult truth. Nothing they tell you will shock you into withdrawing, and they learn that early.
- Protection with teeth. When something is genuinely wrong, you act, and you do not stop at the polite version.
Where you catch
- Intensity that arrives before it is asked for, and lands on lighter signs as pressure.
- Control. You would rather manage the whole situation than watch it go wrong in a way you could have prevented.
- Holding on. You remember every slight against them, long after they have cheerfully forgotten it.
You, with each of the twelve
Twelve children, twelve different weathers between you. Find yours, and then read them in full.
-
Both ruled by Mars, and it shows. They detonate and it is over; you go deep and it lasts. Match their speed at the moment and then let it genuinely end, because holding on to an argument this child forgot at bedtime will confuse and eventually distance them.
-
Your opposite sign, and a bond that is strong and stubborn on both sides. They hold on to comfort and you hold on to truth. Warn them before change arrives, do not substitute their fixed things, and let the argument be about the thing rather than about who moves first.
-
They are light, fast and change their mind, and you will read it as not meaning it. They do mean it, for about an hour. Let the mood pass without interpreting it, answer the questions, and do not go looking for a depth that is not the point with this child.
-
Water and water, and the understanding is almost wordless. You both go under rather than out. Somebody has to say the thing out loud, and it should be you, because this child assumes an unnamed atmosphere is their fault.
-
Two fixed signs with opposite instincts: they need an audience and you need a closed door. Watch the performance properly even when it is not your natural setting, praise in public, correct in private, and resist teasing them about the drama.
-
An easy, observant pairing. They notice details, you notice motives, and between you very little gets past the house. Give them the exact truth, close their worries quickly, and be careful that your certainty does not become one more standard they cannot meet.
-
They want the peace and you want the reckoning. This child will agree with you to end the discomfort, which is not agreement. Ask twice, hold the line without heat, and let them see the repair after the disagreement, not just the disagreement.
-
Two people who watch first and commit completely, in one house. The loyalty is immense and the silences are long. Be the one who opens the door first, because they will wait you out indefinitely and neither of you will mention it for a week.
-
They are open, blunt and entirely unsecretive, and your privacy puzzles them. They will also announce the family business to the street. Teach timing without punishing honesty, give them the door and the outside, and do not interrogate a child who was not hiding anything.
-
Deep, serious and quietly formidable together. You will both take on more than you were given. Say out loud that the adults are handling it, let their first attempts happen unwatched, and give them a real responsibility instead of a token one.
-
Both fixed, and neither of you moves for the other. They detach where you intensify, which can feel like being shut out and is simply how they cool down. Give reasons, let them keep their strange projects, and do not pursue the closeness.
-
Water meeting water, gently. They are porous where you are armoured, so your intensity soaks straight into them without you raising your voice. Lower the temperature of the house, shorten the day, and take the imaginary life seriously rather than looking for what is underneath it.
