The Twelve
The Libra baby
Libra children are sociable from very early and would, given the choice, do absolutely everything with somebody else. They are also the first to notice when a room has gone wrong, and the last to say so.

In the first year
Venus in Libra works outward, towards other people. A Libra baby is charming in a way strangers stop to remark on, and they register every bit of it.
They are often settled in company and restless alone, sometimes to a degree that makes the first year logistically difficult. A Libra baby who is perfectly content in a busy kitchen may object strongly to being put down in a quiet room, and the difference is not stimulation, it is the presence of people.
They mirror. Smile at a Libra baby and you usually get it back. They also mirror the less welcome things, which is why a tense adult holding a Libra baby tends to end up with an unsettled one, and why this sign is worth handing over to the calmest person in the room rather than the most experienced.
Many of them are easy sleepers once asleep and reluctant to be left, which is a combination that eventually resolves and takes its time.
The toddler years
The famous indecision starts here, and it is easy to mistake for fussiness.
A Libra toddler can genuinely see the appeal of both cups. Asked to pick, they will often change their mind, then change it back, then look at you to find out which answer you preferred. This is not a game. It is a real difficulty with cutting off a possibility, and it eases considerably if the adults around them stop presenting an open field and start presenting a pair.
The other feature of these years is peace keeping, which arrives absurdly early. Libra toddlers hand the toy over rather than have the fight. They go quiet when voices rise. They are frequently the child who brings the other one a biscuit after a disagreement they were not part of.
It is lovely, and it needs watching. A child whose instinct is to give way needs explicit permission to want something, and explicit practice at saying so.
Starting school
Socially this is usually the easy part, and the reports say popular.
Libra children make friends quickly and widely, and most of them prefer a best friend to a crowd. They are often the one everybody is happy to be paired with, precisely because they will fit in with whatever is decided.
Two familiar difficulties. The first is that they can be badly destabilised by conflict in the class, including conflict between other people, and may come home flat on a day when nothing happened to them. The second is influence: a child who naturally accommodates can end up going along with things they do not want, and the falling out afterwards tends to be with themselves.
Academically they often do well in anything collaborative and drift in solitary work, which can look like inability and is usually loneliness.
If you are their parent
Your household atmosphere is a bigger input for this child than your parenting technique.
That is a strong claim and worth saying plainly. Libra children read tone continuously, and an argument conducted in reasonable voices behind a closed door is still registered. It does not mean you have to be serene. It means that visible repair matters enormously: they need to see the falling out and then see the mending, or the falling out is the only data they have.
Help them want things out loud. Ask what they would choose if nobody minded. Praise the preference rather than the accommodation. A Libra child who has been thanked all their life for being easy can arrive at adulthood with no idea what they like, which is a real cost hidden inside a pleasant childhood.
And take the company seriously. Wanting somebody there is not a weakness to be trained out. It is the way this sign is put together, and a childhood with enough of it produces an adult who is genuinely good at people.
The two levers
Most evenings with a Libra child come down to these. One list is what brings them back to you, the other is what sends them off.
What settles them
- Company for the ordinary thing: someone sitting on the floor with them while they play, not entertaining, just there.
- A house where the grown ups are getting on, which they register faster than you think.
- A choice narrowed down to two by somebody else, so the deciding is small enough to do.
What sets them off
- Raised voices anywhere in the building, including on the television.
- Being asked what they want when there are more than three answers.
- Being sent off to play alone as a solution to being upset.
Three small things to try this week
-
Offer two, never six
A Libra child asked what they would like for lunch will genuinely suffer, and then choose whatever you mentioned last. Two options, both acceptable to you, both named out loud, turns an ordeal into a decision they can be proud of making. Do it consistently and you will watch them get better at choosing.
-
Let them repair things
When there has been a falling out, with a sibling or with you, this child needs the ending as much as the argument. Show them what repair looks like: come back, say the thing, be warm again on purpose. A Libra who is left with an unresolved atmosphere will keep working at it privately for hours.
-
Sit down and do nothing with them
Not playing, not teaching, not on your phone. Sitting on the floor in the same room while they get on with it. For a Libra child this is the most restorative thing available, and it costs about fifteen minutes. They will talk to you while it happens, which is the point.

Are you a Libra as well?
A child is only half of the weather in a house. Read the Libra parent for what you bring into the room, and for the reading of you with a child of every one of the twelve.
Is Libra their Moon?
The Moon sign often shows more plainly than the Sun in the first years. If Libra is where your child's Moon sits, read the Libra Moon for the need underneath, the night and the comfort that lands.
