Pisces baby gifts and keepsakes
Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, the sign of the sea, of music, of stories and of a heart with soft edges. A Pisces baby gift should feel gentle: a melody, a wash of sea colour, a tale with the child inside it.
A Pisces baby is born between around 19 February and 20 March, under the sign of the two fishes. Jupiter rules Pisces in the old tradition, and Neptune, the planet named for the Roman god of the sea, rules it in modern charts. One planet is generous and wide, the other is dreamy and deep. Put them together and you have a sign made of tenderness.
For a gift giver, that means softness. Sea colours, gentle sound, stories and pictures with room to drift in. Aquamarine and amethyst, the two stones most given to Pisces, which happen to be the calendar birthstones of the Pisces months as well. Pisces children soak up whatever is in the air around them, so the best gift adds calm and beauty to their world rather than noise.
The best Pisces baby gifts at a glance
- A music box with a slow, simple tune. Music reaches Pisces more directly than almost anything else.
- An aquamarine or amethyst keepsake. Both are stones given to Pisces, and one of them is the calendar birthstone whichever month the baby arrives.
- A watercolour print of the two fishes in sea colours. Pisces suits soft, washed paint better than hard lines.
- A lullaby written for them. Write a few lines with the baby’s name in them, to sing to any tune the family knows.
- A pewter cup engraved with the name and the glyph. Pewter is mostly tin, and tin is the metal of Jupiter.
- A hooded towel with two little fish on the hood. Pisces is a water sign through and through, and bath time is its own small sea.
- A homemade storybook with the baby as the hero. Pisces lives inside stories, and one with their own name in it becomes the favourite.
- An afternoon of quiet for the parents. A calm house is the kindest present for a baby who soaks up every mood around them.
What Pisces means, for someone choosing a gift
The two fishes and what they stand for
Pisces is drawn as two fishes, tied together by a cord, swimming in opposite directions. One heads up towards the surface and the light, one heads down into the deep. They are joined and never apart.
That is a beautiful picture of the Pisces child. They live in two worlds at once: the room in front of them and a rich inner world of story and feeling. They are pulled towards other people and pulled inward to dream, and both pulls are real. The Pisces baby profile shows how this looks day to day: tender, funny, very open to the mood of others, and often somewhere else.
For a gift, the fishes stand for imagination, compassion, water and connection. A present that feeds the imagination, honours a gentle heart, brings water close or ties the child to the people who love them is a Pisces present.
The glyph
The Pisces glyph is ♓. It is two curved lines standing upright, with their backs to each other like a pair of brackets turned outwards, joined in the middle by a short straight line. The curves are the two fishes. The line between them is the cord that ties them together.
Read simply, it is a drawing of two things that belong to each other even while they move apart. Many families love it for exactly that reason: it is a picture of a bond that stretches and does not break.
Element, modality and ruler, in plain words
- The element tells you what a sign is at heart. Pisces is water: feeling, sensing and taking things in come first. See the four elements before the twelve signs.
- The modality tells you how a sign handles change. Pisces is mutable, which means it flows and adapts. Mutable signs close a season, and Pisces closes the whole zodiac year, just before Aries begins it again at the March equinox. A mutable water child goes with the current, changes shape to fit the moment and finds it hard to be hurried out of one. The three ways of moving are set side by side in cardinal, fixed and mutable children.
- The ruler is the planet a sign answers to. Pisces has Jupiter as its classical ruler, the planet of generosity, warmth and faith, and Neptune as its modern ruler, the planet of dreams, music and the sea. Jupiter makes the heart big. Neptune makes its edges soft.

When the sign stone and the month stone agree
The stones astrology gives to a sign and the birthstones of the calendar months are two different lists. For many signs, they only partly overlap. Pisces is the happy exception.
A Pisces baby born in February has amethyst as the calendar birthstone, and amethyst is a Pisces stone. A Pisces baby born in March has aquamarine as the calendar birthstone, and aquamarine is a Pisces stone too. Whichever side of the month line this baby lands on, one stone covers both the sign and the month.
March has a second calendar stone, bloodstone, which is dark green with red spots. It is a perfectly good March gift, but it carries a fiery look that belongs more to the Aries end of March. For a Pisces child, aquamarine is the one. Its name comes from the Latin for “sea water”, which could hardly be more fitting.
Gifts by moment
At the baby shower, before the birth
Pisces sits right between two very different signs. A baby due in mid-February could arrive early as an Aquarius, and a baby due in the third week of March could arrive late as an Aries, the first fire sign and about as unlike Pisces as a baby can be. The sign is only certain on the day. If the due date is close to a change, born on the cusp explains how the line really works.
Shower gifts that work whatever happens:
- A sea-coloured gift for the water element, which looks just as lovely on an Aquarius or an Aries baby.
- A music box, because every baby can enjoy a tune.
- A book of nursery songs and rhymes for the family to sing from.
- A stone, promised in writing: amethyst if the baby comes in February, aquamarine if in March. It means the stone matches the month either way, and it will suit a Pisces sign too.
Newborn weeks and the naming day
Pisces newborns can feel like they are still half in another world, drifting and dreamy. Gifts at this stage should be quiet and lovely to look at.
A slow-turning mobile of fish or waves, hung above the changing table, gives the baby something gentle to follow. A pewter cup or small pewter box, engraved with the name and ♓, is a classic naming day gift with Jupiter’s metal in it. A soft sea green or lavender shawl for photographs and the naming day itself, kept afterwards in tissue paper, becomes an heirloom.
For a naming gift with real meaning, our Pisces baby names gather names of the sea, of music and of gentle faith, with the origin of each.
The first birthday
By one, a Pisces child is starting to play pretend, and the best gifts open doors into imaginary places. A hand puppet or two, a soft toy with a name and a story, a picture book with large, dreamy paintings. Gifts with water also suit this sign very well, which first birthday gifts by sign covers along with the other six kinds of present.
For the day itself, built around a story world and a soft landing afterwards, see a birthday party for a water sign child.
The toddler years
From two, the Pisces imagination opens fully. This is the age for:
- a dressing-up box with capes, scarves and a fish tail made of fabric
- puppets and a simple puppet theatre, even a cardboard one
- thick paints and big brushes, with plenty of blue and green
- an ocean drum, a flat drum filled with tiny beads that makes the sound of waves when you tilt it
- a rain stick, for a soft shower of sound
- soft scarves to dance with, to slow music
Gentle sounds and soft colours are the key. Pisces toddlers are moved by beauty, and they will play for a long time inside something lovely.
Gifts by kind
Nursery art: constellation, glyph or birth sky
There are three main kinds of sky print, and each one asks for different details.
A constellation print shows the real star pattern of Pisces. It is a large, faint shape in the sky: two long lines of stars that meet in a V, with a small ring of stars at one end known as the Circlet. Where the two lines join sits a star called Alrescha, from the Arabic for “the cord”, the very knot that ties the two fishes. The stars are dim, so a print in soft silver on deep sea blue suits them. To order one, you only need the sign.
A glyph print shows ♓ on its own, usually large, sometimes with the baby’s name. For Pisces, a watercolour wash behind the glyph, in sea green and violet, feels right. Only the sign is needed.
A birth-sky print maps the whole sky at the moment of birth, with the Sun, the Moon and the rising sign shown. It is unique to this child. It needs three things: the date, the time to the minute if possible, and the place of birth. The Moon changes sign every two and a half days or so, and the rising sign changes about every two hours, so without the exact time a print can show the wrong rising sign. Sun, Moon and rising and how to read a child’s birth chart explain what those placements say.
Personalised keepsakes
Pisces keepsakes should be gentle to look at and to hold.
- a pewter cup, box or frame with the name and glyph
- a music box with the name engraved inside the lid
- a framed print of the lullaby written for them, with the words in soft ink
- a small glass jar of sea glass or tiny shells from a family beach, labelled with the date
- a watercolour of the baby’s name painted by someone in the family
A memory box or time capsule letter
For a Pisces child, the letter in the box should capture the feeling of the time, not just the facts.
Write about the atmosphere of the first weeks. What the light was like in the room where you sat with them. The weather outside the window. The sounds of the house, the kettle, a neighbour’s dog, rain. The story you made up when they would not settle. The tune you hummed. Write it softly, the way you would describe a dream.
Add things that hold a mood: a dried flower, a scrap of the wrapping from their first present, a drawing by an older brother or sister. When a Pisces child opens this one day, they will not only learn what happened. They will feel it.
Clothing with the glyph
Pick soft colours and gentle details. A sea green sleepsuit with a small ♓ on the chest. Lavender socks with one fish on each foot, swimming in opposite directions, so the glyph’s story is told when the feet are side by side. A pale aqua knitted cardigan. Avoid loud prints and hard neon. Pisces looks most like itself in colours that seem to have been washed in sea water.
Toys and books that suit this temperament
Pisces children play inside stories. One toy can become a whole world for weeks. Give them things that invite a story rather than tell one. How each sign plays shows how this compares with the other signs.
Kinds of toy that suit Pisces:
- soft animals with gentle faces, especially sea creatures
- hand and finger puppets
- open toys with no fixed purpose, like scarves, fabric and cardboard boxes
- simple instruments with soft sounds
- a small set of sea creatures for the bath
Kinds of book that suit Pisces:
- dreamy picture books with big, soft paintings and few words
- books set under the sea, full of colour and slow, gentle life
- wordless picture books, where the child tells the story themselves
- books about kindness and feelings, including how other people feel
- song and rhyme books, to be sung rather than read
Experiences
Pisces enjoys experiences that are calm, beautiful and close to water or music.
- A trip to the sea to hear the waves, even in winter.
- A relaxed music session for babies, the small and gentle kind rather than a big loud class.
- Parent and baby swimming sessions, paid for as a gift, for a sign that is at home in water.
- A small puppet show once they are a toddler, the kind with soft voices and a kind ending.
A gift for the parents of a Pisces baby
A Pisces baby takes in the mood of everyone near them, so a calm parent is half the gift. Anything that lowers the noise and the rush at home helps the baby too.
Offer to take an older child out for the afternoon, so the house is quiet. Come and clean the kitchen while the parents rest, then slip away. Give a soft lamp for the living room, so evenings can be dim and gentle. Put together a playlist of slow, peaceful music they can play at home.
Most of all, do not fill their days. A Pisces family does well with one thing a day, not three. If one of the parents is a Pisces as well, the Pisces parent is worth reading.
What to write in the card
Soft, kind and a little dreamy. Any of these is ready to copy.
- Welcome, little fish. The whole sea is glad you swam in.
- Two fishes, one cord, and a family tied to you with love.
- Jupiter gave you a big heart. We give you somewhere soft to keep it.
- For the last sign of the zodiac and the newest star in our sky.
- Here is a little piece of the sea, to keep beside you.
- May your days be gentle and your songs be many.
- Every good story needs someone new in it. Welcome to ours.
- To the new parents: we will bring the quiet. You bring the cuddles.
What to avoid
Pisces is easy to please, but the wrong gift can unsettle this sign quickly.
Toys that overwhelm. Anything with bright flashing lights, many sounds at once and a lot of buttons crowds the senses of a Pisces baby. One soft sound is plenty.
Frightening toys and pictures. A shark with big teeth, a monster book, a scary mask. Pisces takes stories very seriously, and a frightening picture can stay with them long after the book is closed.
A packed day out as the present. Three activities in one day, a theme park, a big crowded show. A Pisces child is happier with one gentle hour than a busy whole day.
Hard, harsh colours. Pisces looks and feels best in soft, sea-washed shades. Bold neon and heavy black jar with this sign.
Gifts that correct the imagination. Pisces children live in stories, and a gift that tells them something is “only pretend” misses the child completely.
Just one safety point, and then we are done with it: stones, crystals, jewellery, small decorative pieces, cushions and decorative blankets belong on a shelf or in a box as keepsakes, never in the cot and never in the mouth.
A gift with soft edges
The best Pisces gift does not need to be grand. It needs to be gentle: a song with their name in it, a stone the colour of sea water, a picture of two fishes swimming into the deep and the light. Pisces receives a present with the whole heart, and a little beauty goes a very long way.
If the baby’s Moon is in Pisces too, they carry the sign twice, and Double Pisces reads that child. To see the sign in daylight and at night, read the Pisces baby and the Pisces Moon child. The other water signs have their own gift pages, Cancer baby gifts and Scorpio baby gifts, and every sign is gathered in zodiac baby gifts.
